Read this blog post if you would like to know more about my thinking behind this painting.
Brushwork Detail
I made special use of the impasto technique in this painting as I wanted a contrast between my focal area and the dreamy background mountains. I used a very large 1″ brush loaded with paint for the blossom, and made the stroke in just one pass. Similarly the other dry brush strokes were done after the paint underneath had dried
Photographic Reference for the painting
I exaggerated the color of the nearby mountain to increase the contrast with my focal point and provide a dramatic diagonal to anchor the design.
