Gluhi Do is a village situated in the region of Crmnica, which is considered to be one of the most fertile regions of Montenegro, with vineyards everywhere.

I did this painting above Ratko’s art residence one evening. The shadows in this scene were interesting leading to the blue gray distant mountains. I love to capture these landscapes that have a lot of depth to them. The most important thing in calculating this depth is to use the principles of atmospheric perspective.

For those of you who are beginners, note the use of warm and cool colors in the foreground. By using warm and cool greens, and also complementary reds and greens, you get a vibration of colors in the grass that make it alive. This warm/cool color contrast is a major theme in painting. It applies to both the painting as a whole, and also to individual shapes within a painting.

About the painting

The basic color harmony I used was Secondary color harmony.
