This new product has been designed to be lightweight for travel, with a good sized 12″ x 16″ palette. It can also accommodate two side trays for holding your brushes and for an extra mixing space.
I took the new lightweight Versa Pochade for its first test run at Art in the Open 2024. It’s lightweight, and has a large palette size for a pochade, so I don’t have to compromise on color mixing space. There is plenty of room to carry enough paint for a day’s painting on the palette, so you save a lot of weight by not carrying paint tubes. The quality is superb – it is built with good quality wood, and has a quality finish with mitred joints, and rounded corners as a nice touch. The fittings too are good quality and solid, so overall this box has the feel of a quality product. This really is a great pochade box if you don’t want to sacrifice mixing space in your pochade, yet still need a fairly lightweight system. The extendable panel support also lets you keep your palette and painting separated vertically so you don’t tire your arm holding it too high while painting – a common problem with many pochade boxes. The final proof was, by not having to compromise on my impasto technique, on my first run with this pochade, my work won the Silver Award at the Art in the Open event!
