Ivetta Lokhmatova – Biography

Ivetta Viktorovna Lokhmatova was born in 1982 in Kurgan. Her grandfather I.Ya. Lokhmatov is known for the film “Roads of Soldiers” (1943). In 2003 she graduated from the Art College. N.K. Roerich, in 2012 – St. Petersburg State Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I.E. Repin at the Russian Academy of Arts, workshop of Professor V.V. Sokolov. She achieved a diploma with honors, the Praise of the State Attestation Commission and the medal of the Russian Academy of Arts “For academic success.” Laureate of the VI Igor Minakov Creative Competition.

She has participated in many of exhibitions “Yuri Kalyuta and Students”, organized at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Central Academy of Beijing, numerous exhibitions of the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg.

Her paintings relate to the Russian tradition of the painters of the mid-19th – and to the first third of the 20th century, during which the particularly Russian flavor of impressionism, emerged.

Her portraits attract attention because of how simply she captures the individual character and emotion of the sitter, using just texture, color and shape. This is what Svetlana Ershova, candidate of art history, says about I. Lokhmatova’s work.

Ivetta Lokhmatova herself writes about herself this way: “I always wanted my works to be listenable: the sound of the wind, streams running through village streets, the crunch of snow… I love a simple motif, when a lot can be expressed in a few words. The main goal and task is to convey the mood and rapidly changing states of nature. Impressions accumulated over the years, numerous travels enriched them, making the palette more diverse: the Russian north (the village of Kimzha), the Golden Ring, and finally, the south – the sun! Impressionism for me is a moment frozen in color!”
