Tuscany Episode 10: The Fountain, Chianciano

Here are the two phases of starting this painting. I used transparent red oxide for the background wash, and raw umber and blue for the fountain. In the second stage I was exploring where I wanted to put the major shapes and color accents.

This is the fountain in Chianciano Terme. This town in the beautiful countryside of Southern Tuscany has been transformed into the ‘City of Artists’ recently with the opening a brand new contemporary art museum.
